A Hybrid Film Wedding at the MAAS Building | Philadelphia Wedding Photography

Bride and groom who got married at the MAAS Building in Philadelphia hold hands in front of a set of teal French doors

If you have an artistic eye, are drawn to a more free-flowing timeline, and love to break tradition, the MAAS building might be your dream wedding venue. Many modern and artistic couples feel drawn to the warehouse-industrial garden feel of this space. Kristen and L were married here on a warm June evening in 2024, in front of a small, intentional gathering of the people who matter most to them. If your style aligns with photojournalistic wedding photography and candid moments caught on film, I think you’ll love their gallery.

Highlights From This MAAS Building Wedding

Kristen and L surprised their sweet grandfather with a birthday cake mid-reception. They set up a GameCube running Mario Kart for guests to enjoy after dinner. They greeted every vendor as they arrived with hugs and heartfelt thank yous. Thoughtful touches like this speak volumes about the people Kristen and L are — humbly sharing the spotlight on their big day and genuinely excited to bring joy and ease to the people around them, without pretense. That attitude was clear throughout the entire day, and it’s what made me approach documenting their love story with a specific kind of attention to detail.

How Kristen And L’s Wedding Day Photographed on Film

For their wedding, I photographed in both digital and 35mm film. I love this combination in spaces like MAAS, where the textured walls, layered light, and cobblestone courtyard feel made for film. There’s a softness to the film from this day that suits Kristen and L: unhurried, a little dreamy, exactly how the afternoon actually felt.

Summer Wedding Floral Color Palette

Chloe, their sister-in-law, worked through Walter Pine Floral Studio to arrange their beautiful summer flower arrangements. Kristen’s bouquet alone tells you everything you need to know about the palette they chose for a June wedding. Peach dahlias, orange cosmos, yellow billy balls, soft blue forget-me-nots — warm and a little wild, like a summer garden growing unchecked. Her work is stunning, and Walter Pine Floral Studio is absolutely worth knowing.

The MAAS Building Indoor Outdoor Wedding Ceremony Space

The patio space at MAAS is a bit of a hybrid indoor/outdoor oasis for wedding ceremonies. The building’s large teal doors make a noticeable statement, and there’s a reason every MAAS Building photographer photographs them. The doors are the axis point of the whole space: ceremony in front, reception just beyond when they open. During the ceremony, a harpist played as guests were seated in the cobblestone courtyard. The soft, lilting sound carried up through the open air and the ivy along the walls. It was the most serene backdrop for this intimate summer wedding day.

I am so grateful I get to work with couples like Kristen and L at intimate Philadelphia venues like MAAS.
